Finally, it’s the day’s end. I am tired, almost finished with the dishes, and in a few minutes I will drop onto the couch for some very deserved me time.
But right now I am caught, and it is all because of this big and very dirty plastic container. I should recycle it, but before walking it over to the bin, it needs to be cleaned, and all I really want to do is collapse for the night. I could skip the cleaning and just throw it in the bin, but even that short walk feels like too much; or, I could leave it in the sink overnight, but of course it will smell in the morning, and what I really want to do is just throw it away, but…
Being pinched is nothing but a no-win. If I do what I want, I will feel wrong; if I do what I should, I will feel angry.
What to do? At the risk of being lynched, I will just say it: I might not clean the container, might not even soak it overnight, or even recycle it at all. I might just throw it away. Right! Waste our planet’s precious resources and toss it into one of our over-flowing landfills.
Why? It is so easy for some of us to push, and push and keep on pushing ourselves, working just a little longer, doing just a bit more of what we do not want to be doing.
Irritation/anger is what puts a stop to my own pushing, and I cannot help but wonder what it would be like to live a life in opposite: being just a little nicer to myself, doing just a bit less of what I do not want to do and a bit more of what I do.
